An Empirical Study on the Synergistic Effects of the Industrial Chain in Chinese-Korean Sports Products Trade
Abstract
Based on Chinese-Korean sports product trade data from 2016 to 2024, this study employs a panel data model and multiple regression analysis to explore the impact of bilateral trade on industrial chain synergy and industrial development. The findings reveal that China’s total trade volume in sports products increased from 1.8 trillion RMB to 4.7 trillion RMB, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.3%. The bilateral trade volume between China and South Korea grew from 52 billion RMB to 96 billion RMB, with an average annual growth rate of 7.9%, accounting for a stable 2%-2.3% of China’s total trade volume, highlighting its strategic significance. In 2020, the bilateral trade volume declined by 5.2% year-on-year due to the pandemic’s impact, but it rebounded quickly after 2021, demonstrating the resilience of the industrial chain. Regression analysis indicates that Chinese-Korean trade volume (β=0.85), export growth rate (β=12.36), and import growth rate (β=8.74) all have significant positive impacts on the total output value of the sports industry (R²=0.926). Export growth plays a particularly prominent role in driving industrial scale expansion, while imports facilitate innovation through technology spillover.
The study further reveals the complementarity of the two countries’ industrial chains: China, leveraging its manufacturing advantage, dominates the processing stages, while South Korea focuses on high-value-added product development. On the policy front, the study recommends deepening industrial chain collaboration under the Chinese-Korean Free Trade Agreement framework, optimizing logistics networks to reduce trade costs, and promoting industrial upgrading through technology introduction and export-oriented policies. This study fills gaps in the existing literature by addressing the dynamic trends in niche sectors and the long-term effects of policies, providing theoretical and practical insights for international cooperation in sports product trade.
